Le Ballon

DDB Paris has a lovely tv spot, a two minute ad for Tiji children’s tv station in France.

When a little girl lets go of her balloon, it floats up high into the sky, but where does it go?

The trouble is ... for an ad that talks about imagination, the script looks too 'inspired' by Le Ballon Rouge (Albert Lamorisse, 1956). Isn't it?

Anyway --- Lovely!

Salamagica

There is some amazing Photoshop work by Ricardo Salamanca at Salamagica. Great is that he gives a few "behind the scenes shots" of how he created his images.

MegaStructures: Ice Hotel

Every year a team of builders, sculptors, designers and artists creates one of the most amazing structures on Earth – a hotel made entirely of ice, located about 200 kilometer (124 mile) north of the Arctic Circle in Sweden.

Thousands of tons of snow and ice make up this hand-crafted fantasy land. Thousands of guests and voyeurs will experience it every year, before it melts.

This documentary is your chance to see one. Witness the construction and disappearance of this most megastructure.

Kiss Fight & Rollercoaster Rush

Mentos made a parody of traditional fighting games: instead of hitting you opponent in order to kill him, you kiss your opponent in order to have pleasure and enjoy the moment.

Explore the International Space Station

The ISS Interactive Reference Guide is a fun way to learn about, and explore the space station to achieve a better understanding of how it operates, and generally what it is. This interactive feature includes:

  • How the crew lives: how they eat, sleep, and exercise
  • How the ISS: is operated, built, and supported
  • A 360 degree view of the space station
  • An explanation of the ISS's purpose
  • And a cool music video!

Speed Painting Art

Jack Sparrow - Pirate of Caribbean speed painting
[full-finished picture here]

This site shows the art and painting by Martin Missfeldt. He paints and draws with humour and oil paint, gouache, watercolor, ink or digital: speed painting videos, bustle-pictures, drawings, cartoons, illustrations, oil paintings, visual eye test pictures, short-comics and much more.

The latest works are the speed painting videos. Since 2003 Missfeldt paints also digital images with graphics tablet and the programm Adobe Photoshop. With the help of the computer, it is easy to get the painting-process as a video recorded. The videos have a real length of about 4 hours. After finishing the painting process the movies are saved as time-lapse video, so that a video with about 4 minutes length documents the entire painting process.

10,000 Birds

image
Yellow Warbler, Toronto

There are approximately 10,000 bird species on this beautiful planet. Here at 10,000 Birds we expect to not only see but eventually photograph or write about every single one! (I know, we have ambitions bigger than Saturn, but it does no harm to dream… )

Anyway, your hosts are developing a serious interest in photography. We’ve consequently begun to amass a rather large collection of photos, and rather than squirrel them away on our hard-drives we’ve decided that you may like to see them instead.

All the Galleries linked to on this page are of a single species (mostly birds, but we also point our lenses at insects, mammals, and plants) and contain between four and ten different images and (often) a short bio.
