Natural World: Eagle Island

Spectacular shots of eagles in the nest, of abundant marine life and of the dramatic Scottish landscape.

Expert cameraman and presenter Gordon Buchanan returns to his homeland to rediscover its stunning wildlife and magnificent scenery.

The Isle of Mull has the highest density of eagles in the United Kingdom, otters in every bay and even whales, sharks and dolphins in the surrounding seas. Gordon's specific mission is to find and film the Sea Eagle, the biggest bird of prey in Europe and one that has only recently returned to the Isle of Mull. Mull also has an exceptional population of Golden Eagles and truly deserves the name Eagle Island.

Beautifully filmed!
Natural World: Eagle Island by BBC 2, 2005
Duration: 48 minutes

Enjoy your weekend!

Oasis of the Seas

We were on a cruise through the Caribbean last March. It was glorious! – because the cruise and the places we visited were indeed wonderful, and we had a fantastc time. It was a small ship and very lovely, carrying 450 passengers and a crew of 200. Since I am also a fan of cruise ship travel ... a photo-illustrated travelogue is coming soon ...

And since I'm interested in all aspects of cruise ships and travel.

I'm not sure bigger is always better, but this one is breathtaking. Royal Caribbean's 'Oasis of the Seas' will be ultra luxury and the world's largest cruise ship.

Inanimate Alice

Inanimate Alice is an interactive tale of Alice, a girl who seems to be always losing her parents. The stories are told through a mix of text, sounds and images with some interaction.

More an interactive piece of fiction than a traditional game.

So it's best to just click and dive right in. The fourth of ten episodes has recently come online.

Beginning with Alice as an eight year old living in remote regions of China with her parents, the story will develop in interactive complexity as Alice matures into her twenties. She has so far also been to Italy and Russia and in the fourth episode she is fourteen and living in an ordinary town in England.

The first three episodes are also available in German, French and Spanish. To choose one go to the main site.

Lookybook

Lookybook is a website that allows anyone to browse through hundreds of children's books online and peek inside. Actually, it's more than a peek. If you want to, you can flip through the book and see each and every page.

Not only for children!

Using watercolours and coloured pencils, Wallace Edwards has created a bizarre and luxurious world, rich in texture and detail. An engaging mix of art and alphabet book, Alphabeasts provides the basis for hours of animated discussion and quiet contemplation.

Another fantastic children's picture book website is Big Universe. They have also hundreds of beautiful fiction and nonfictions titles and they have a pretty slick tool that enables you to create your own children's picture books online (also very cool!).

Flight 404

Simply captivating!

His name is Robert Hodgin and he is a visual artist and a coder.

How do you make this stuff?
Nearly everything on this blog is made with Processing, an open-source initiative started by Casey Reas and Ben Fry. You can find out more about it at the Processing website.

I checked out his site and read as much about this as I could understand and I gotta say it's amazing.

Visit his website Flight 404 - all manner of distractions and/or his portfolio flight404's videos.

Its all code based so thats probably why it felt repetitious. No key frames and no layers. I decided early on that I didnt want to use any post software. Its 100% Java.

Here is another stunning one:

Foodscapes

image

At first glance, these images look like painted landscapes. Look closely!
You will see that the sea and storm were made of cabbage, in other photos trees are broccoli and the hills are baked potatoes.

Best Kisses

image

This is a unique kissing photo website created to promote the power of love one kiss at a time. My wife Terri and myself wanted to develop a community website that we could partner in together as a labor of love after three kids and twenty three years of marriage. We brainstormed about creating something positive that would brighten our day. It was our desire to provide a simple way for ourselves and others to post positive messages of love that would leave a lasting impression, so we focused on the power of a kiss in pictures.

There are romantic kisses, friendly kisses, animal kisses, artistic kisses, goofy kisses ...
Creators Ray and Terri filter through the submissions with a tasteful sensibility - so it's not tacky or NSFW.

My Best Wishes to Best Kisses!

And don't miss Top 10 Health Benefits of Kissing!

Swimming Hedgehog

DO NOT try this with an inexperienced swimmer. Shming is an excellent swimmer, but you could drown one if you don't know EXACTLY what you're doing! Even the best swimmer should NEVER, EVER be left alone!

I've never seen such thing like that, but he looks like he loves it in there ...

And the ladies behind sound like Moaning Myrtle from Harry Potter or Herbert from Family Guy .. lol.
