Contemporary Art from Thailand, Vietnam and Burma
| Aung Kyaw Htet was born in 1965 in Myaungmya and studied at the State School of Fine Arts in Rangoon. He is a devout Buddhist and grew up in a small village -- two factors which have a strong influence on his art. His paintings of religious life in Burma show monks and nuns in a realistic manner, though non-essential objects are omitted from the paintings in order to focus on the religious aspects. Aung Kyaw Htet paints the faces of monks and nuns in great detail to show their humanity. Contemporary Art from Thailand, Vietnam and Burma by Thavibu Gallery. |

Book of the Month
Book of the Month November 2005: Handley Cross.![]() | Traditionally, November marks the start of the hunting season and so this month we feature Handley Cross, a nineteenth century comic classic that centres on the adventures of John Jorrocks, an eccentric grocer turned Master of Fox Hounds. Written by R. S. Surtees, this entertaining satire is a 'noisy, vital book' full of zest and high spirits. Coloured steel engravings and woodcuts by the renowned Victorian book illustrator, John Leech, enliven this edition. |
