New News Stories in Photographs
The recent "acqua alta" (high water) in Venice, Italy reached a depth of 1.56 meters (5 ft, 1 in.) on Monday - the deepest flood in 22 years, and the fourth highest flood level in recent history, claimed Venice's Tide Center. The water began to subside on Tuesday, while residents and tourists made their way through the city, hip-waders or not - one man even took the opportunity to ride his wakeboard through Piazza San Marco (until police stepped in). Although this flood was severe enough for the mayor to ask tourists to temporarily stay home, Venetian floods are fairly routine, several occurring every year, and residents usually take it all in stride.Venice under Water (25 photos total)

Photographer Mike Hettwer has been kind enough to share with us some of his photographs depicting what remains of the Green Sahara. About 9,000 years ago, a very wet climate prevailed in parts of the Sahara Desert called the Neolithic Subpluvial period. Lasting several thousand years, this Green Sahara was home to many grassland and woodland animals as well as humans. While on an expedition for dinosaur fossils with paleontologist Paul Sereno in Niger in 2000, Hettwer discovered a burial area containing hundreds of skeletons from two distinct cultures, each thousands of years old - the Kiffian and Tenerian.

Birdphotos
I have been a birdwatcher for most of my life.My motives are limited to birds, and the few larger animals I meet on my way. All birds fascinate me, but I love the owls and hawks in particular. I see birdphotography as a way of documenting the birds life, more than an art-form. Therefore I strive with my photos, to show the birds behaviour and in particular I pursue action-photos.

Pixolu - Find what you Imagine
This search engine for images is different to all others. Once you search an image you can refine your search by once again making another search using that image as a key. And there is no end, you can keep drilling down unless you find a more accurate match. It uses Yahoo, Flickr and Google.Lets make it more clear: First search an image with a keyword (e.g Rose), then select the one you like. Now use that image to search again and get better results, you get roses which are similar to the image you selected.
Oh, and on clicking of the image you can find the details i.e. the exact url and size of the image.

Ah - and don't miss their ImageSorter, an image browsing application, which allows an automatic sorting by color, date taken, name, or size.
Wildlife Photographer of the Year
Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2008 is Steve Winter.I've been stalked by jaguars in Brazil, charged by a 12-foot grizzly in Siberia, and trapped in quicksand in the world's largest tiger reserve in Myanmar. I have flown over erupting volcanoes and visited isolated villages where residents had never before seen a blond foreigner -- or a camera.

Windmills in Eastern Germany
This documentation tries to list all still available windmills in eastern Germany. It was created from 1992 to 1998. After an analysis of historical maps and literature, as well as countless excursions, still 704 windmills in all possible preservation statuses could be found and photographed. The pallet reaches from a heap of rubble, up to affectionate restored, still grinding systems. It shows varietys of windmill types in all modifications, the aesthetic charm even of a ruin and in addition, the problems of the monument protection of a not longer used technology.Windmills in Eastern Germany by Reinhard Krause

Mountain Photography

Pala Reflection , Dolomites, Italy
The earth is a big place with lots of variety, but in my opinion it doesn't get much better than relaxing next to an alpine lake, surrounded by towering mountains and wide views. One goal of my photography is to record and communicate some of those moments of paradise in nature. Also more generally, I want to show the purity, grandeur and uniqueness of mountains and perhaps inspire people to appreciate and respect the remaining wilderness for themselves.

Perroquet

Born out of a lifelong fascination with science photography and nature documentaries, Parroquet showcases a body of work by fashion photographer Sølve Sundsbø, comprising eight film shorts and a selection of photographs. Keen to produce imagery that didn’t fall into the traditional genres of photography, this project’s central focus is the parroquet, a type of small, slender, long-tailed parrot.
Perroquet
One thing more beautiful than the photographs are the eight slow-motion film shorts on the website; epics of the perroquets in flight. Beautiful colors!
